Julie Zhan

Julie Zhan is an actor, dancer, aspiring filmmaker, and magna cum laude graduate of the University of California, San Diego. This jack-of-all-trades is making strides with her involvement in the entertainment industry, and has directed and produced various short films garnering the attention of the new media community, including Phil Yu (blogger, Angry Asian Man).

Zhan is a devoted advocate of increasing Asian American representation in mainstream media. Having herself struggled with the dilemma of pursuing a career in entertainment over a financially stable nine-to-five, she hopes to encourage and open doors for the next generation of Asian American creatives by bridging the cultural and multi-generational gap through her own creative pursuits.

In helping and inspiring others via creative endeavors, Zhan has discovered herself. Since 2006, she has been heavily involved with various non-profit organizations including the San Diego Asian Foundation (SDAFF) and Engineers Without Borders (EWB), co-founding a chapter at UCSD.  Zhan is currently on projects with Harry Shum Jr. (actor, Glee), John M. Chu’s The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers (The LXD), and TheOtherAsians.

“The only limitations in life are the ones you impose on yourself.”
